Does PNG to BMP conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when BMP is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background — if you need transparency, pick a transparency-aware target instead of BMP. BMP is the Windows Bitmap, the raw raster format built into Windows since 1985.
What happens to EXIF metadata when converting PNG to BMP?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the BMP. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of PNG files to BMP at once?

Are my PNG files private during conversion?

Yes. Uploaded PNG files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted BMP are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why is my converted BMP file bigger or smaller than expected?

A PNG file with strong compression (heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded into a lossless BMP (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless PNG often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG/WebP. The ratio depends on the image content (photos compress differently from line-art or screenshots). PNG is a poor photograph format: a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP. BMP is gigantic — a 12-megapixel photo is around 36 MB — and no browser treats it as a sane web format.
Can I use the converted BMP file commercially?

Yes. The conversion is a format change — copyright on the image content stays with whoever held it on the source PNG. We add no watermark, no metadata stamp, and claim no licence over the BMP output.
