Does PNG to ICO conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when ICO is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background — if you need transparency, pick a transparency-aware target instead of ICO. ICO is the Windows icon format, and it is the only image format browsers will accept at /favicon.ico.
What happens to EXIF metadata when converting PNG to ICO?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the ICO. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of PNG files to ICO at once?

Are my PNG files private during conversion?

Yes. Uploaded PNG files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted ICO are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why is my converted ICO file bigger or smaller than expected?

A PNG file with strong compression (heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded into a lossless ICO (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless PNG often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG/WebP. The ratio depends on the image content (photos compress differently from line-art or screenshots). PNG is a poor photograph format: a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP. ICO is not a general image format: it is square, small, and no photo editor treats it as a first-class working file.
Can I use the converted ICO file commercially?

Yes. The conversion is a format change — copyright on the image content stays with whoever held it on the source PNG. We add no watermark, no metadata stamp, and claim no licence over the ICO output.
