Does WebP to BMP conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when BMP is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background — if you need transparency, pick a transparency-aware target instead of BMP. BMP is the Windows Bitmap, the raw raster format built into Windows since 1985.
Does converting WebP to BMP restore the quality that was lost?

No. The compression artefacts already baked into the WebP are ordinary pixel data now, and BMP preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. BMP needs no decoder library at all, so it remains the safe interchange format for embedded systems and legacy Windows tooling. WebP is still second-class outside the browser — print workflows, older Office builds and some phone galleries do not accept it.
My WebP is animated — what happens to the other frames?

Only the first frame survives, because BMP is a still format with nowhere to store the rest. If the animation matters, target a format that animates, or convert to a video container instead and keep the motion. BMP is gigantic — a 12-megapixel photo is around 36 MB — and no browser treats it as a sane web format.
What happens to EXIF metadata when converting WebP to BMP?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the BMP. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of WebP files to BMP at once?

Are my WebP files private during conversion?
