How do I extract individual frames from WMV as BMP images?

Upload the WMV and open the options. Frame Extraction has two modes: Single Frame saves one BMP from the second you enter (for example 1, 5 or 10.5), and All Frames saves every frame of the video as a BMP image. There is no every-Nth-frame or one-per-second mode. WMV is Windows Media Video, Microsoft’s ASF-based format from the Windows XP era. BMP is the Windows Bitmap, the raw raster format built into Windows since 1985.
Can I get the BMP frames without the subtitles?

Only if the WMV never had them burned in, because WMV has no selectable subtitle stream to switch off. Anything a WMV shows on screen is in the picture itself, so it is in every BMP the extraction produces and no setting removes it afterwards. Where a separate subtitle file exists alongside the video, extract from a source that kept the two apart and the frames come out clean. WMV is effectively a dead end: macOS, iOS, Android and every browser need third-party decoders, and some WMV files carry DRM that cannot be converted at all.
How big will the BMP files be?

Larger than you might expect, because BMP keeps every pixel exactly rather than approximating. A 1080p still lands around 2-5 MB and a 4K still around 6-15 MB, so a long extraction run adds up quickly. That is the right trade when the images feed further processing, and the wrong one when they are going straight onto a web page. BMP usually stores completely uncompressed pixel rows with a small header, which is why it is so simple to parse.
At what resolution do the extracted BMP images come out?

Same resolution as the source WMV: a 1080p WMV produces 1920x1080 BMP frames, a 4K WMV produces 3840x2160 BMP frames. The converter does not upscale or downsample — pixel dimensions are pulled straight from the decoded frame. Use /resize-image/ after extraction if you need smaller thumbnails.
Can I extract every frame of a WMV as BMP?

Yes, with All Frames in the Frame Extraction option, but watch the count: one minute of 30 fps video gives 1,800 BMP images. For a single still, choose Single Frame and enter the second you want instead.
Will the BMP frames preserve the WMV colour grading?

HDR footage is not tone-mapped: each frame is converted from the WMV as it is decoded, so a frame from an HDR WMV can look flat or washed out as a BMP. Standard (SDR) video keeps its colours.
How long does frame extraction from WMV to BMP take?

It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame.
Is my WMV private during frame extraction?

Yes. Uploaded WMV files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted BMP are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why are my extracted BMP frames blurry?

Almost always motion blur baked into the source WMV (the camera or subject was moving while that frame was captured). Try picking timestamps from static scenes, or extract several adjacent frames and pick the sharpest. The pipeline does not synthesize detail that is not in the original WMV.
