How do I extract just the audio track from WMV as WAV?

Upload the WMV file and the converter demuxes the audio stream from the WMV container, then transcodes it into WAV. Video frames are discarded — no second video pass, no quality loss beyond what the WAV codec itself introduces. WMV is Windows Media Video, Microsoft’s ASF-based format from the Windows XP era. WAV is Microsoft and IBM’s RIFF-based audio container from 1991, and it is what almost every audio interface and DAW writes on record.
Does converting WMV to WAV improve the audio quality?

No, and it is worth being blunt: nothing can. The WMV already discarded detail during its original encode, and wrapping what remains in a lossless WAV preserves exactly that — no more. The file gets several times larger and sounds identical. It is still the right move before editing, because WAV will not add a second generation of artefacts when you export. WAV is the correct format for editing, mastering and archiving, because it can be re-encoded any number of times without accumulating artefacts. WMV is effectively a dead end: macOS, iOS, Android and every browser need third-party decoders, and some WMV files carry DRM that cannot be converted at all.
Why will some of my WMV files not convert?

DRM. A subset of WMV files are encrypted by the store or the software that issued them, and encrypted audio cannot be decoded by any converter. Anything you ripped yourself, recorded, or bought without protection converts normally; a licensed purchase will not.
Which audio track gets extracted when my WMV has several?

One track, picked automatically: normally the main one, the track with the most channels. This page has no setting to choose a different track and does not list the tracks in the file. If you need commentary or a dub instead, remux the WMV with that track first (VLC or ffmpeg can do this) and convert it again.
What bitrate does the WAV file use?

A lossy WAV is encoded at 192 kbps by default. The Audio Quality setting also offers 320 kbps for the best quality and 128 kbps for a smaller file. A lossless WAV (WAV, FLAC) ignores the bitrate and keeps every sample. WAV normally stores raw uncompressed PCM — every sample kept exactly, at whatever bit depth and sample rate was captured.
Will going from WMV to WAV reduce my audio quality?

If the WAV format is lossless (WAV, FLAC, ALAC), every original sample is preserved. If WAV is lossy (MP3, AAC, OGG, Opus), the codec recompresses — at 192 kbps the difference is inaudible for most content; at 96 kbps you may hear cymbals or sibilants softening. The WMV container has no influence on this — only the codec settings matter.
Does the extracted WAV keep the WMV sample rate?

By default yes — 48 kHz WMV audio becomes 48 kHz WAV audio, 44.1 kHz becomes 44.1 kHz. If you need to downsample for compatibility (e.g. 96 kHz studio masters to 44.1 kHz CD-quality WAV) the sample-rate dropdown does this with high-quality resampling.
Can I batch-extract WAV audio from a folder of WMV files?
