Does GIF to JPEG conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when JPEG is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background — if you need transparency, pick a transparency-aware target instead of JPEG. JPEG is the same standard as JPG and JFIF — the four-letter extension is the original, and the three-letter one exists only because of the DOS 8.3 filename limit.
How much quality will I lose going from GIF to JPEG?

At quality 80-85 the difference is invisible at normal viewing distance and the file typically drops by 60-80%. The catch is that it is one-way: re-saving the JPEG repeatedly compounds the artefacts each time. Keep the GIF as the master and regenerate the JPEG from it whenever you need a new size. GIF animation plays absolutely everywhere — email clients, forums, chat apps and browsers all render it with no codec negotiation. The bitstream is identical to a .jpg: DCT-based lossy compression, usually with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, wrapped in a JFIF or Exif header.
My GIF is animated — what happens to the other frames?

Only the first frame survives, because JPEG is a still format with nowhere to store the rest. If the animation matters, target a format that animates, or convert to a video container instead and keep the motion. JPEG shares every JPG limitation — no alpha, generational loss on re-save — with the added nuisance of software that treats the two extensions differently.
What happens to EXIF metadata when converting GIF to JPEG?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the JPEG. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
