How do I extract individual frames from WMV as JPG images?

Upload the WMV and open the options. Frame Extraction has two modes: Single Frame saves one JPG from the second you enter (for example 1, 5 or 10.5), and All Frames saves every frame of the video as a JPG image. There is no every-Nth-frame or one-per-second mode. WMV is Windows Media Video, Microsoft’s ASF-based format from the Windows XP era. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
Can I get the JPG frames without the subtitles?

Only if the WMV never had them burned in, because WMV has no selectable subtitle stream to switch off. Anything a WMV shows on screen is in the picture itself, so it is in every JPG the extraction produces and no setting removes it afterwards. Where a separate subtitle file exists alongside the video, extract from a source that kept the two apart and the frames come out clean. WMV is effectively a dead end: macOS, iOS, Android and every browser need third-party decoders, and some WMV files carry DRM that cannot be converted at all.
At what resolution do the extracted JPG images come out?

Same resolution as the source WMV: a 1080p WMV produces 1920x1080 JPG frames, a 4K WMV produces 3840x2160 JPG frames. The converter does not upscale or downsample — pixel dimensions are pulled straight from the decoded frame. Use /resize-image/ after extraction if you need smaller thumbnails.
Can I extract every frame of a WMV as JPG?

Yes, with All Frames in the Frame Extraction option, but watch the count: one minute of 30 fps video gives 1,800 JPG images. For a single still, choose Single Frame and enter the second you want instead.
Will the JPG frames preserve the WMV colour grading?

HDR footage is not tone-mapped: each frame is converted from the WMV as it is decoded, so a frame from an HDR WMV can look flat or washed out as a JPG. Standard (SDR) video keeps its colours.
How long does frame extraction from WMV to JPG take?

It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame.
Is my WMV private during frame extraction?

Yes. Uploaded WMV files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted JPG are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why are my extracted JPG frames blurry?

Almost always motion blur baked into the source WMV (the camera or subject was moving while that frame was captured). Try picking timestamps from static scenes, or extract several adjacent frames and pick the sharpest. The pipeline does not synthesize detail that is not in the original WMV.
Can the converter pick one frame per scene change in the WMV?

No. The converter has no scene detection and no one-per-second mode: it saves either a single frame at the second you enter or every frame. For one image per scene, extract single frames at the times where the scenes change.
