How do I extract just the audio track from MOV as AMR?

MOV is Apple’s QuickTime container, shipped in 1991 and still the format an iPhone, iPad or Final Cut Pro timeline writes by default. AMR is Adaptive Multi-Rate, the speech codec 3GPP standardised for GSM voice calls and mobile voice recorders.
Yes, and it is worth planning around. Both formats are lossy, so the AMR encoder is working from audio that has already been through one psychoacoustic pass, and its own decisions compound the first set. At 192 kbps or above the result is still transparent for most listening. If you have a lossless master anywhere, encoding the AMR from that instead avoids the double pass entirely. A MOV normally carries H.264 or HEVC for delivery, or ProRes when it is an editing master, alongside AAC or uncompressed PCM audio. AMR is a narrowband speech codec running between 4.75 and 12.2 kbps, modelling the human vocal tract rather than the full audio spectrum.
It is folded down to stereo, because AMR has no practical multichannel mode. The downmix uses the standard coefficients so centre-channel dialogue stays clear and the surrounds are mixed in at reduced level. Anything that depended on discrete channel placement is gone once that happens. AMR destroys music: its 8 kHz bandwidth removes everything above telephone frequencies, and no amount of re-encoding brings it back.
Because one side of it is a speech codec rather than a music codec. It models the human vocal tract and discards everything outside telephone bandwidth, which is fine for a voice memo and destructive for anything with instruments in it. Converting away from it cannot restore the missing frequencies — they were never encoded in the first place. MOV files are large, and outside the Apple ecosystem playback support is patchier than MP4 — older Android builds and some Smart TVs will refuse them.
By default stream 0 (the first audio track, usually the main mix). If your MOV carries commentary, dubs, or descriptive audio on additional tracks, the advanced "audio stream" picker lets you pick 1, 2, 3... explicitly. The track list is shown in the upload preview so you do not pick blind.
Default AMR bitrate is 192 kbps (transparent for music to most ears). Override to 320 kbps for audiophile output, or 96-128 kbps for voice / podcast where the smaller file is the priority. Lossless AMR targets (WAV, FLAC) ignore the bitrate setting and keep every sample.
If the AMR format is lossless (WAV, FLAC, ALAC), every original sample is preserved. If AMR is lossy (MP3, AAC, OGG, Opus), the codec recompresses — at 192 kbps the difference is inaudible for most content; at 96 kbps you may hear cymbals or sibilants softening. The MOV container has no influence on this — only the codec settings matter.
By default yes — 48 kHz MOV audio becomes 48 kHz AMR audio, 44.1 kHz becomes 44.1 kHz. If you need to downsample for compatibility (e.g. 96 kHz studio masters to 44.1 kHz CD-quality AMR) the sample-rate dropdown does this with high-quality resampling.
