PDF to JPG Conversion FAQ

How do I convert PDF pages to JPG images?
+
Upload the PDF file and the converter renders each page as a separate JPG file. By default each page becomes its own image; the result is bundled as a ZIP archive ready for download. PDF is Adobe’s Portable Document Format from 1993, standardised as ISO 32000 and now the universal fixed-layout document. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
Quality 85 is the sensible default and the one used unless you change it — visually indistinguishable from the source at normal viewing distance, at roughly a fifth of the size of a lossless equivalent. Push to 95 for anything that will be edited or printed, and drop to 70 for thumbnails where size dominates. JPG is lossy: the image is transformed with a DCT, quantised, and entropy-coded, with a quality knob controlling how much is discarded.
Yes — the page-range option takes `1-5`, `1,3,5` or `all`, so a single chapter, an appendix or just the cover can be extracted without processing the rest. On a long document that is the difference between a handful of files and several hundred.
It depends entirely on whether real text is present. A PDF generated from a document carries an actual text layer and is searchable; a PDF built from scans or images is a picture of text and is not, until OCR adds a layer. /pdf-ocr/ does that, and it is worth running before any conversion that expects to read the words.
Yes — each page renders as its own JPG file and the set arrives as a ZIP. The page-range option narrows that down when you only want a cover or a single chapter, and setting it to a single page returns one file rather than an archive.
Default 150 DPI (good for screen viewing and most print). The advanced options expose 72 (web thumbnail), 150 (default), 300 (print quality), 600 (high-quality archival). Higher DPI yields sharper JPG images but quadratically larger files.
Yes — the page-range option accepts inputs like `1-5`, `1,3,5`, or `all` to pick which pages of the PDF get rendered to JPG. Useful when only a chapter or appendix of a long PDF is needed as images.
No — rasterizing PDF to JPG turns text into pixels. If you need searchable output, keep the PDF as a PDF and use a text-extraction tool instead. Image output (JPG) is for visual display or further image processing.
PNG JPG preserves the PDF page background as transparent if the source page has no fill (rare in real-world PDF). JPG cannot store transparency — pages render onto a white background. For transparent output, target PNG, TIFF, or WebP.
About 30-90 seconds for a 100-page PDF -> JPG at 150 DPI. Higher DPI doubles or triples the time. Premium users get more parallel workers — 100 pages typically renders in under 30 seconds for them.
A 150-DPI JPG of an A4 page is 200-800 KB (PNG) or 50-150 KB (JPG quality 85). Multiply by page count to size the ZIP — a 100-page PDF to PNG bundle is typically 30-80 MB.
Not in the basic flow — each page becomes its own JPG. To produce a single stitched image, download the ZIP, then use /image-merge/ to vertically concatenate the per-page JPG files into one tall result.

PDF

PDF files preserve formatting across all devices and operating systems, making them ideal for sharing files that need to look the same everywhere.

JPG

JPG files use lossy compression optimized for photographs, presenting small file sizes while upholding visual standard.
