Does GIF to PSD conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when PSD is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background — if you need transparency, pick a transparency-aware target instead of PSD. PSD is Adobe Photoshop’s native document, and it is a working file rather than a delivery format.

My GIF is animated — what happens to the other frames?

Only the first frame survives, because PSD is a still format with nowhere to store the rest. If the animation matters, target a format that animates, or convert to a video container instead and keep the motion. PSD is huge, opens properly in almost nothing outside Adobe, and has to be flattened before anyone can view or print it.

What happens to EXIF metadata when converting GIF to PSD?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the PSD. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.

Can I batch-convert hundreds of GIF files to PSD at once?

Why is my converted PSD file bigger or smaller than expected?

A GIF file with strong compression (heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded into a lossless PSD (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless GIF often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG/WebP. The ratio depends on the image content (photos compress differently from line-art or screenshots). GIF’s 256-colour ceiling wrecks gradients and video stills, and its file sizes for animation are an order of magnitude worse than WebP or MP4.
