How do I extract individual frames from AVI as JPG images?

Upload the AVI and open the options. Frame Extraction has two modes: Single Frame saves one JPG from the second you enter (for example 1, 5 or 10.5), and All Frames saves every frame of the video as a JPG image. There is no every-Nth-frame or one-per-second mode. AVI is Microsoft’s Audio Video Interleave, introduced in 1992 on top of the RIFF chunk format — one of the oldest containers still in circulation. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
Can I get the JPG frames without the subtitles?

Only if the AVI never had them burned in, because AVI has no selectable subtitle stream to switch off. Anything an AVI shows on screen is in the picture itself, so it is in every JPG the extraction produces and no setting removes it afterwards. Where a separate subtitle file exists alongside the video, extract from a source that kept the two apart and the frames come out clean. AVI has no native support for modern codecs, variable frame rate, soft subtitles or files over 4 GB without hacks, and its per-chunk overhead bloats the file.
At what resolution do the extracted JPG images come out?

Same resolution as the source AVI: a 1080p AVI produces 1920x1080 JPG frames, a 4K AVI produces 3840x2160 JPG frames. The converter does not upscale or downsample — pixel dimensions are pulled straight from the decoded frame. Use /resize-image/ after extraction if you need smaller thumbnails.
Can I extract every frame of an AVI as JPG?

Yes, with All Frames in the Frame Extraction option, but watch the count: one minute of 30 fps video gives 1,800 JPG images. For a single still, choose Single Frame and enter the second you want instead.
Will the JPG frames preserve the AVI colour grading?

HDR footage is not tone-mapped: each frame is converted from the AVI as it is decoded, so a frame from an HDR AVI can look flat or washed out as a JPG. Standard (SDR) video keeps its colours.
How long does frame extraction from AVI to JPG take?

It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame.
Is my AVI private during frame extraction?

Yes. Uploaded AVI files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted JPG are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why are my extracted JPG frames blurry?

Almost always motion blur baked into the source AVI (the camera or subject was moving while that frame was captured). Try picking timestamps from static scenes, or extract several adjacent frames and pick the sharpest. The pipeline does not synthesize detail that is not in the original AVI.
Can the converter pick one frame per scene change in the AVI?

No. The converter has no scene detection and no one-per-second mode: it saves either a single frame at the second you enter or every frame. For one image per scene, extract single frames at the times where the scenes change.
