Markdown to RTF Conversion FAQ
Is the Markdown to RTF converter free?
+
Yes. One conversion an hour is free, with no account needed, for a file within the free size limit. A paid plan removes the hourly limit and the size limit, and lets you add several files to one job.
Will the RTF look formatted if the Markdown had no formatting?
+
It will look plain, because there is nothing to recover. A Markdown carries no styling information, so the converter applies a clean default — a readable body font, sensible margins, paragraphs separated where blank lines were. Headings are inferred where the source used a recognisable convention, and everything else arrives as body text. Markdown is the same syntax as .md, spelled out in full — some editors and static site generators expect the long extension.
Why would I use RTF rather than a modern document format?
+
Because it opens in essentially everything, including software from the early nineties, and because it is plain readable text underneath so it survives systems that mangle binary attachments. The trade is size and features: an RTF is several times larger than the equivalent XML package and cannot carry tracked changes, comments or complex tables.
How big a Markdown file can I convert to RTF?
+
Free conversions have a size limit per file, set by the type of file, and the page tells you when a file is over it. A paid plan removes that limit, so much larger files can be converted.
Can I convert many Markdown files to RTF at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
Does the Markdown to RTF converter work on phones / tablets?
+
Yes — the UI is responsive and the conversion pipeline runs server-side, so mobile devices upload-then-download just like desktops. iOS and Android browser file pickers (camera roll, Files app) work end-to-end without an app.
Which browsers does the Markdown to RTF converter support?
+
Chrome, Firefox, Safari (15+), Edge, and Opera. The converter uses a plain `<input type="file">` upload — no WebAssembly or PWA dependencies — so even older browsers convert Markdown to RTF successfully.
Are my Markdown files kept private?
+
Yes. Uploaded Markdown files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted RTF are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy. The long form is what Jekyll, Hugo and several documentation pipelines look for by default, so it fits straight into those builds.
What if the RTF download does not start automatically?
+
Disable any pop-up blocker, then click the download button manually. The result link stays active for 24 hours, so if your network fails mid-download you can re-trigger from the result page without re-uploading the Markdown.
How long does Markdown to RTF conversion take?
+
It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame. RTF opens in essentially every word processor ever written, including WordPad, TextEdit and thirty-year-old software. RTF files are bloated relative to their content and lose modern features like tracked changes, comments and complex tables.
