Is the PDF searchable with selectable text?

Yes when the Markdown contains real text layers (DOCX, ODT, HTML, TXT, EPUB). Image-based Markdown produces an image-only PDF — to make it searchable, follow up with /pdf-ocr/ to run optical character recognition over the page bundle. The content is identical plain-text markup; only the filename differs, and both extensions are parsed by the same renderers.
Will the text still reflow to my screen after converting Markdown to PDF?

No — this conversion pins the layout. A Markdown adapts its line breaks to whatever width and font size the reader is using; the PDF fixes page geometry at conversion time, so on a phone you get the whole page scaled down rather than text rewrapped to the screen. That is the right trade when the layout must not move, and the wrong one when the file is for reading on a small device. The long form is what Jekyll, Hugo and several documentation pipelines look for by default, so it fits straight into those builds. PDF is Adobe’s Portable Document Format from 1993, standardised as ISO 32000 and now the universal fixed-layout document.
Will the PDF look formatted if the Markdown had no formatting?

It will look plain, because there is nothing to recover. A Markdown carries no styling information, so the converter applies a clean default — a readable body font, sensible margins, paragraphs separated where blank lines were. Headings are inferred where the source used a recognisable convention, and everything else arrives as body text. Markdown is the same syntax as .md, spelled out in full — some editors and static site generators expect the long extension.
Can I still edit the content after converting Markdown to PDF?

Not the way you edit the Markdown. The PDF is a delivery format: it fixes the layout so it renders identically everywhere, which is exactly why it resists editing. Keep the Markdown as the working copy and regenerate the PDF whenever the content changes — round-tripping back out of PDF always loses something.
Can I password-protect the PDF after conversion?

Not in this same step — convert Markdown to PDF first, then use /pdf-protect/ to add an open password, owner password, or print / edit restrictions. Splitting the steps lets each conversion stay focused and fast.
Is my Markdown private during PDF conversion?

Yes. Uploaded Markdown files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted PDF are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
