Does ICO to PNG conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when PNG is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background — if you need transparency, pick a transparency-aware target instead of PNG. PNG was designed in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF, and became the web’s default lossless image format.
What happens to EXIF metadata when converting ICO to PNG?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the PNG. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of ICO files to PNG at once?

Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
Are my ICO files private during conversion?

Yes. Uploaded ICO files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted PNG are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Why is my converted PNG file bigger or smaller than expected?

An ICO file with strong compression (heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded into a lossless PNG (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless ICO often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG/WebP. The ratio depends on the image content (photos compress differently from line-art or screenshots). ICO is not a general image format: it is square, small, and no photo editor treats it as a first-class working file. PNG is a poor photograph format: a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP.
Can I use the converted PNG file commercially?

Yes. The conversion is a format change — copyright on the image content stays with whoever held it on the source ICO. We add no watermark, no metadata stamp, and claim no licence over the PNG output.
