TXT to MD Conversion FAQ
Is the TXT to MD converter free?
+
Yes. One conversion an hour is free, with no account needed, for a file within the free size limit. A paid plan removes the hourly limit and the size limit, and lets you add several files to one job.
Why convert between TXT and MD when they are the same kind of file?
+
Because the file has to open on the other end, and version and vendor differences decide whether it will. Two formats in the same family can still be years apart in what software reads them, how large they are on disk, and which features they carry. The conversion normalises the file onto whichever one the recipient actually supports. TXT is plain text — characters and line breaks with no formatting layer whatsoever. MD is Markdown, John Gruber’s 2004 plain-text syntax for writing structured documents that stay readable as source.
How big a TXT file can I convert to MD?
+
Free conversions have a size limit per file, set by the type of file, and the page tells you when a file is over it. A paid plan removes that limit, so much larger files can be converted.
Can I convert many TXT files to MD at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
Does the TXT to MD converter work on phones / tablets?
+
Yes — the UI is responsive and the conversion pipeline runs server-side, so mobile devices upload-then-download just like desktops. iOS and Android browser file pickers (camera roll, Files app) work end-to-end without an app.
Which browsers does the TXT to MD converter support?
+
Chrome, Firefox, Safari (15+), Edge, and Opera. The converter uses a plain `<input type="file">` upload — no WebAssembly or PWA dependencies — so even older browsers convert TXT to MD successfully.
Are my TXT files kept private?
+
Yes. Uploaded TXT files are processed on our own conversion servers, no person reviews them, and they are never shared. The upload and the converted MD are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy. Plain text is the most durable format there is: it will still be readable when every proprietary format of this decade is unopenable.
What if the MD download does not start automatically?
+
Disable any pop-up blocker, then click the download button manually. The result link stays active for 24 hours, so if your network fails mid-download you can re-trigger from the result page without re-uploading the TXT.
How long does TXT to MD conversion take?
+
It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame. Markdown is the lingua franca of documentation, README files, static site generators and note-taking apps, and it diffs cleanly in git. Markdown has no single standard, so tables, footnotes and embedded HTML behave differently between CommonMark, GFM and everything else.
Do I need to install software to convert TXT to MD?
+
No — the converter runs entirely in your browser plus our servers. No desktop install, no plugin, no extension. Just upload your TXT, wait, download the MD.
