Does JPEG to JFIF conversion preserve transparency?

Transparency survives when JFIF is PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background — if you need transparency, pick a transparency-aware target instead of JFIF. JFIF is the JPEG File Interchange Format — the header specification that makes a raw JPEG bitstream into a portable file.
Will my CMYK colour survive the conversion to JFIF?

It is converted to sRGB, because JFIF has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original JPEG rather than the JFIF. The .jfif extension confuses Windows and many web apps into refusing the file, which is usually the only reason anyone converts it.
What happens to EXIF metadata when converting JPEG to JFIF?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the JFIF. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.

Why is my converted JFIF file bigger or smaller than expected?

A JPEG file with strong compression (heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded into a lossless JFIF (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless JPEG often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG/WebP. The ratio depends on the image content (photos compress differently from line-art or screenshots). JPEG shares every JPG limitation — no alpha, generational loss on re-save — with the added nuisance of software that treats the two extensions differently.
